Set Up Your Server
Your Garrison instance is running. Now let's turn an empty server into a home for your guild. This walkthrough takes about ten minutes, and the channel layout is a single click thanks to built-in templates.
Haven't stood up the server yet? Start with Self-Hosting, one command brings up the whole stack with HTTPS.
The walkthrough
-
Create the owner account
Open your instance (e.g.
https://chat.yourguild.gg) and Register. The first account you make is yours, you'll be the server owner, which bypasses every permission check. -
Create your server
Click οΌ Add a server and give it a name (and a logo, if you have one). You'll get a fresh server with a
#generalchannel and an@everyonebase role. -
Apply a channel template
Open Server Settings β Templates and pick a layout. Garrison instantly creates the categories and channels for you, a complete, organized server in one click. The two built-in templates are below. (Existing channels with the same name are skipped, so it's safe to apply onto your
#general.) -
Set up roles & ranks
In Server Settings β Roles, click βAdd the rank ladderβ to seed Leader β Vice Leader β Officer β Veteran β Member β Recruit (hoisted & colored), then tweak to taste. Details on the Roles & Permissions page.
-
Lock down announcements
Make
#announcementsread-only: open the channel's permissions and deny Send Messages for@everyone, allowing it only for your officer ranks. See per-channel overrides. -
Invite your guild
Generate an invite link (Server Settings β Invite, or the invite button), set a use limit or expiry if you like, and share it. New members land straight in the server.
The built-in templates
These are exactly what Server Settings β Templates applies. Both are starting points, rename, reorder, or delete anything afterward.
π£ = announcement channel Β· priority = priority-speaker voice
Templates are additive and safe to re-apply: Garrison reuses a category of the same name and skips any channel you already have, so you can layer the Enterprise template on top of Basic later as your community grows.
